York Avenue Homes is owned and operated by Ray and Tanya Schaap. Having worked in the industry for over 25 years, Ray and Tanya have developed lasting relationships with architects, engineers, contractors and designers. Ray brings a vast knowledge and hands-on approach to design and construction, while Tanya provides a keen eye for interior design and years of experience with design finish selection.
Ray started out in residential construction as a journey-level carpenter in the 1990s, framing custom homes in Vancouver, including many large estates in West Vancouver. Over the years, he worked on a number of multi–family and custom residential projects, eventually moving into site supervision and project management in BC and Alberta. Shortly after relocating to Alberta in 1999, Ray and Tanya established Four Construction Ltd. (FCL), a general contracting and construction management firm which continues to operate today.
Ray’s extensive knowledge of the construction industry and his solid reputation with contractors have given him the opportunity to manage a variety of commercial, residential and industrial projects, including senior care facilities, commercial plazas, restaurants, multi-family projects as well as a number of custom homes, large-scale renovations and rural acreage developments.
As demand grew for their custom home services, Ray and Tanya founded York Avenue Homes Inc. in 2022 to oversee their residential design/build projects. With the demand for custom homes increasing, Ray and Tanya aim to provide a boutique, small-volume experience for clients looking to design and build their dream home.
Curious about the name? York Avenue Homes is named after Ray and Tanya’s first apartment, a tiny studio located on York Avenue one block up from Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver, BC. They founded their first company there in 1996 and have been business owners ever since.
